On January 10th, at 10am, the AMC Loews Lakewood Towne Center is offering a Family Friendly movie for Sensory sensitive children and their families. Families affected with autism can enjoy The Adventures of TinTin for $4-$6 with lights up and sound turned down. No previews or ads either! Bring your own snacks to enjoy and have fun at the movie.
This is great. So many of my friends who have a child with a special need also has dietary requirements and the food restrictions at movie theaters can be daunting. So, this is a really special event for some very special people.
This blog is dedicated to finding inexpensive, but fun and educational activities and functions throughout Pierce County and the City of Tacoma. As things outside that area come to my attention, they will be posted here too.

Pumpkin Patch and Safety Fair
Bring your family to the West Pierce Fire & Rescue PUMPKIN PATCH SAFETY FAIR this Saturday, Oct. 22 from 10am-2pm. This event is free and open to the public!
This is a great opportunity to let your kids meet firefighters, police officers and get your car seats checked. Typically at these safety fairs you can get your car seats checked, and sometimes a bicycle helmet fitted. Statistics from Parenting magazine state that at least 1 in 8 parents have their car seats installed incorrectly. Lets be safe and maybe get some pumpkins too.
Event is located at WPFR Station 2-1 (5000 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, WA 98499)

Summerfest - 2011
Summerfest 2011 is at Ft Steilacoom Park in Lakewood. June 24th and 25th you can walk through Summerfest and on Saturday see the Car Show and shop the vendors ending with the movie "How to Train your Dragon" at dusk. On Sunday, see the motorcycle rally and take part in the Poker Run put on by the Lakewood Police Department. http://www.cityoflakewood.us/departments/parks-and-recreation/recreation/summerfest.html
Ive been on a poker run before and they can be a TON of fun. If you have a child old enough to ride with you, this one is kid-appropriate with stops at the sheriffs department and at Eagle Leather in Lakewood ending at Ft. Steilacoom Park. http://www.cityoflakewood.us/documents/parks_and_recreation/documents/summerfest_2011_motorcycle_rally_flyer.pdf Could be a lot of fun for the motorcycle enthusiast and their prodigy. :)
Have fun everyone and stay safe and remember to keep the rubber street side down.
